NFL Grid questions
- How does the NFL Grid work?
- Each square sits under a column header and beside a row header, usually two NFL teams or a team and a stat, college, position or draft fact. Name one player who fits both. You get nine guesses for nine squares, a wrong guess still uses one, and a player can only be used once per grid.
- When does a new grid come out?
- Every day at midnight Eastern time. The day before's grid moves to the archive with every valid answer listed.
- Which seasons count?
- Every NFL season from 1999 on, regular season and playoffs. A season stat header like 1,000+ rush yards means regular-season totals in one season, with every team he played for that year added together.
- Does the stat have to come with that team?
- No. For a square like Eagles and 10+ sack season, any player who played for the Eagles and had a 10 sack season with any team counts.
- What does played for a team mean?
- He shows up in that team's weekly player stats for at least one game since 1999: a catch, a tackle, a kick, even a penalty. Players who never recorded a stat for a team are not counted for it.
- What is the rarity score?
- For each right answer, the share of all right answers in that square that named the same player. Empty or missed squares count 100. The nine are added up, so lower is rarer and a perfect board of answers nobody else found scores close to 0.
- Do I need an account?
- No. The grid is free and open. Your boards, streak and stats are saved in this browser only.
- Where does the player data come from?
- From nflverse, the free public NFL data project: weekly player stats for every season since 1999 and its player table for colleges, positions and draft rounds. Every grid is checked to have at least three valid answers in every square from players with 32 or more games.
