Week 5 waiver wire targets ranked by Week 4 usage: Emanuel Wilson leads, and the adds to skip

Week 5 waiver claims ranked by the share of targets and carries each player drew in Week 4, with Sleeper's 48 hour add counts. Emanuel Wilson tops the list; two of the most added players drew three targets or fewer.

Rank the claims by work, then look at the adds

Sleeper's trending list counts how many times each player was added across Sleeper leagues in the last 48 hours. It is a measure of attention. It is not a percentage rostered, and it moves with touchdowns and headlines faster than it moves with roles. So we rank this week's claims the same way every week: first by the share of his team's targets or carries a player drew in Week 4, then by the reason that share should hold, and only then by the adds.

Every player here was checked against Sleeper's player file for his team and position, and every Week 4 number was checked against the ESPN box score. Team defenses and kickers are left off, as are three trending players we could not evaluate: Tyreek Hill and Joe Mixon, who show no team on Sleeper, and Alvin Kamara, whose Saints play Atlanta on Monday night. Kansas City and Carolina are on a bye in Week 5.

The top four, and why

Emanuel Wilson, Seahawks. The clearest role on the wire. Jadarian Price went to injured reserve on Saturday with a chest injury (AP), Zach Charbonnet is on the PUP list per Sleeper, and Wilson took 70% of Seattle's carries plus 4 targets. Sleeper's depth chart lists him first. If he is somehow still free in your league, he is the claim.

Tank Bigsby, Eagles. Saquon Barkley injured his right hamstring in the first quarter (AP), did not return, and is listed Out on Sleeper. Bigsby took over with 14 carries for 55 yards, then was hurt himself late in the game and is listed Questionable. That second injury is why he is second and not first. Will Shipley, third on the depth chart with 6 carries, is the deeper claim if Bigsby's status gets worse during the week.

Keon Coleman, Bills. DJ Moore left with a shoulder injury late in the first half (AP) and is listed Questionable. Coleman caught 6 of 7 targets for 116 yards and a touchdown. Khalil Shakir, ahead of him on the depth chart, drew 8 targets. Coleman's claim depends on Moore's practice reports this week, and Buffalo does not play until Monday, October 12, at the Rams.

Dohnte Meyers, Bengals. Ja'Marr Chase is listed Out with a concussion, and Tee Higgins, who drew 16 targets, is listed Questionable with a groin injury after leaving late (AP). Meyers is third on Sleeper's depth chart and caught 7 of 9 targets. If Higgins also misses time, Meyers and Mitch Tinsley, who drew 7 targets, are the receivers left. Cincinnati plays at Miami.

The middle of the list

Darius Cooper, Eagles. Two touchdown catches on 3 receptions and 33 yards is a thin line, but his 7 targets led Philadelphia, with DeVonta Smith and Marquise Brown both listed Out. Treat the target share as the reason to claim, not the touchdowns.

Brenton Strange and Michael Mayer, tight ends. Strange drew 35% of Jacksonville's targets. Mayer drew 10 targets beside Brock Bowers, who drew 11 and played through an illness (AP). Both are volume tight ends this week; neither scored.

Keaton Mitchell, Chargers. A three way backfield: Mitchell 10 carries, Omarion Hampton 9 and a touchdown, Kimani Vidal 5 carries and a touchdown catch. Mitchell's 6 targets are the difference, but a 38% carry share is not a lead role.

Roman Wilson, Steelers. Second in adds with 891,234, mostly for a 12 yard touchdown on a shovel pass (AP) and 74 yards on 3 catches. His 6 targets were 15% of Pittsburgh's, behind DK Metcalf's 9 and Jaylen Warren's 6. The adds are ahead of the role.

Tremayne and Waller may matter after the bye, with Jalen Coker listed Out and Xavier Legette on injured reserve, but a claim this week spends a roster spot on a zero. Jennings is second on Minnesota's depth chart, and the volume with Jefferson out went to T.J. Hockenson, who caught 13 of 13 targets, and Aaron Jones, who drew 8.

Quarterbacks for a bye or an injury

Kansas City's and Carolina's byes take out Patrick Mahomes and Bryce Young, and Lamar Jackson is listed Questionable with an ankle injury. The quarterbacks being added most, with Week 4 lines:

  • Kirk Cousins, Raiders: 31 of 52 for 365 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT, 23.6 points. Plays at New England.
  • C.J. Stroud, Texans: 21 of 31 for 347 yards, 2 TD, 23.1 points. Plays at Tennessee.
  • Deshaun Watson, Browns: 24 of 33 for 268 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, 13.9 points. Plays at the Jets.
  • Tyson Bagent, Bears: 25 of 34 for 268 yards, no touchdowns, 9.8 points, starting while Caleb Williams is listed Out (hamstring). Plays at Green Bay.

If you roster Jackson, Tyler Huntley is second on Baltimore's depth chart and went 8 of 9 for 63 yards in relief.

What to do with this

  1. File the claims in share order: Emanuel Wilson, then Bigsby or Shipley depending on Bigsby's status, then Coleman and Meyers depending on Moore and Higgins. Price bids with the FAAB guide.
  2. Wait on Monday night. Falcons and Saints usage is not in this data yet. Sleeper's default waiver run clears early Wednesday morning, so there is time to add a Monday night name before claims process.
  3. Skip the bye week adds and check the Week 4 injury report before you drop anyone listed Questionable.
