Illinois launched retail sports betting in March 2020 and mobile in June 2020. Eligible operators must partner with a licensed Illinois casino or pro sports venue.
All major national brands operate in the state. Retail sportsbooks are live at riverboat and land-based casinos including Rivers Des Plaines and at the United Center, Wrigley Field, Wintrust Arena, and Guaranteed Rate Field.
A 2024 budget deal replaced the previous flat 15% tax with a progressive structure: 20% on the first $30M of adjusted gross revenue per operator, scaling to 40% above $200M. The change has not yet visibly reduced operator activity but may compress promotions.
Minimum age is 21.
