The apps opened on January 8, 2022, and New Yorkers now bet more than $1.5 billion in a typical month.

Betting in person is limited to upstate commercial casinos, among them Resorts World Catskills and Rivers Schenectady. Licenses for downstate casinos, New York City included, are still pending.

Because the state keeps such a large share of what sportsbooks earn, the bonus offers advertised in New York are noticeably thinner than in neighboring states.
