Freddie Mercury as a basketball player: scouting report

At Live Aid in 1985, Freddie Mercury held a packed Wembley Stadium in the palm of his hand for about twenty minutes, and that is what he would do with the ball at point guard. He wants the stage. His basketball IQ is the best part of his card and his shooting comes next, so he can run the offense for three quarters and then take the big shot himself when the clock is winding down.

Born Farrokh Bulsara in Zanzibar, he studied art and graphic design at Ealing Art College in London and designed the crest that became Queen's logo, so he has an eye for the shape of a play. His passing nearly matches his jumper, and he would treat a possession the way he wrote Bohemian Rhapsody: a few distinct sections, a tempo change or two, and a finish nobody saw coming. He played piano on many of the band's records, and that soft touch carries over to his floater and his feel for a bounce pass in traffic.

Athleticism is the lowest mark on his card. He will not run past younger guards or play above the rim, so he wins with timing, change of pace and a quick release. His defense and rebounding are solid without standing out. Shooting guard is an easy second home because his jumper travels anywhere, and small forward is possible at a bigger cost. Draft him early as your lead creator, give him a long defensive wing to cover the other team's quickest guard, and let him take the final shot.
