Lady Gaga as a soccer player: scouting report

Lady Gaga goes in goal, and the first piece of evidence is her Super Bowl halftime show in Houston in 2017, which began up on the stadium roof before she took the stage below. A goalkeeper needs that comfort with heights, because every corner means leaving the line and attacking a ball in the air with players flying in from every side. Goalkeeping is the best part of her card, and she brings real nerve to it.

Dribbling is her next best mark, which makes her comfortable with the ball at her feet under pressure. She has moved easily between dance pop, jazz standards with Tony Bennett and the film A Star Is Born, whose song Shallow won her an Oscar, and a keeper who can switch styles that smoothly can go short to a center back one moment and long to a winger the next. Her pace lets her race off her line to close down a striker who is through on goal, and her passing is reliable enough to start counters. She took her stage name from the Queen song Radio Ga Ga, so expect plenty of theater whenever she claims a cross.

Physical strength is the weak spot on her card, so she will not bully strikers in a crowded six yard box. She beats them with timing and anticipation instead, and a pair of strong center backs in front of her takes care of the rest. Fullback and central midfield are workable fallbacks, but the drop from goal is large. Draft her in the early keeper rounds and she will make the save that turns a match.

Plays like A fearless keeper who flies off her line for every high ball
