Basketball card gifts for 2026, by budget

For a basketball fan, give a box from this season's NBA sets: a Value Box or hanger under $25 or under $50, a mega box under $100, or a hobby box for $100 and up. This year's boxes carry rookie cards of Cooper Flagg, Kon Knueppel, Dylan Harper. For a fan of one player, his rookie card makes the most personal gift. Every pick below is a real NBA product with its budget tier, and every name opens the store that sells it.

Budget tiers use typical retail as of October 18, 2026; prices change.

Three things to know before you buy

  • Match the sport and the team they follow; a rookie card of their favorite player is the most personal pick.
  • Retail boxes (Value Boxes, hangers, blasters and megas) are sold in big stores. Hobby boxes are sold through card shops and the makers' own sites.
  • Add penny sleeves and a toploader or one-touch case, so the best card in the box has somewhere safe to go.

Questions

What is a good basketball card gift?
A retail box from this season, like the 2025-26 Topps Chrome Basketball Hanger Box, with a pack of toploaders so the best card has somewhere to go. For a fan of one player, his rookie card: Cooper Flagg's 2025-26 Topps #201.
Which NBA rookies are in this year's basketball boxes?
The boxes on this page carry rookie cards of Cooper Flagg, Kon Knueppel, Dylan Harper, VJ Edgecombe, among others, per the sourced checklists on each player's card guide.
What is a blaster box?
A retail box of card packs sold at big stores like Target and Walmart, smaller than a hobby box. Blaster, mega, hanger and Value Boxes are all retail formats; a 2025 Topps Chrome Football Mega Box holds 7 packs of 6 cards.
Hobby box vs blaster box: which makes the better gift?
A hobby box is sold through card shops and the maker's site and usually states a guaranteed autograph or relic (Topps: "One autograph per box" in a 2025 Topps Chrome Football Hobby Box). A blaster costs far less and is easy to find in stores. For a first gift, a blaster or Value Box; for a collector who already opens boxes, a hobby box.
Who makes NBA cards now?
The previous edition, 2025-26 Topps Chrome Basketball, was fully licensed by the NBA, while earlier Chrome Basketball editions carried players-union rights only and showed no team logos.
