Card collector stocking stuffers: sleeves, toploaders and more

Supplies are the stocking stuffer every card collector uses up: penny sleeves and toploaders for every good card, team bags to seal them, a magnetic one-touch case for the best one, and a binder or storage box for the rest. Most cost under $25. Add a Value Box so there is something to open on the day.

Sleeves, toploaders and team bags

The supplies a collector goes through fastest.

One-touch cases and display

For the one card they want to see every day.

Three things to know before you buy

  • Match the sport and the team they follow; a rookie card of their favorite player is the most personal pick.
  • Retail boxes (Value Boxes, hangers, blasters and megas) are sold in big stores. Hobby boxes are sold through card shops and the makers' own sites.
  • Add penny sleeves and a toploader or one-touch case, so the best card in the box has somewhere safe to go.

Questions

What do card collectors need most?
Penny sleeves and toploaders. Every card they want to keep goes in a soft sleeve, then a rigid toploader; collectors go through hundreds of each.
What is a one-touch?
A clear, magnetic two-piece holder that snaps shut around one card, made by Ultra Pro under the ONE-TOUCH name. Holders come in thicknesses (35pt for a standard card, thicker for patch and relic cards).
What are team bags?
Resealable plastic bags that hold a card in a toploader, or a small stack of cards, so nothing slides out in a box or in the mail.
Penny sleeve or toploader?
Both: the soft penny sleeve keeps the surface from scratching, and the toploader around it keeps the card from bending.
