The season at a glance

The 2026-27 regular season opens Tuesday, Oct 20, 2026, with 3 games: Boston at Detroit at 3 PM ET, Philadelphia at New York at 7 PM, and Oklahoma City at San Antonio at 9:30 PM. The last scheduled date is Sunday, Apr 11, 2027.

The published schedule has 1,200 games, 80 per team, across 156 game days. That is not the full season. Each team's last 2 games are added after the NBA Cup group stage, into the Dec 4 to Dec 11 window that has no games yet. Every count below comes from the 80 games on the schedule today, and fantasy weeks run Monday to Sunday.

The first week is uneven. The week of Oct 19 has 43 games. Philadelphia is the only team with 4. Boston, Cleveland, Denver, Phoenix and Portland have 2. Through Nov 1, eight teams play 7 games (Atlanta, Charlotte, Golden State, Houston, Indiana, the Lakers, Minnesota, Philadelphia) and Phoenix plays 4.

Why back-to-backs matter

A back-to-back is two games on consecutive days. For fantasy it cuts both ways.

On the plus side, a back-to-back packs two games into two days. More games in a week means more counting stats in head-to-head categories and more total points in points leagues.

On the minus side, teams commonly rest players on the second night of a back-to-back. A team's schedule tells you when that second night falls, not who sits. Treat the second game as likely but not certain for any player whose team manages his minutes, and check the injury and status page on the day.

The spread this season is narrow. Brooklyn, Boston, Cleveland, Dallas and New Orleans have the most, 16 each. Eleven teams have the fewest, 13. That is a difference of 3 across a full season. The count is a reason to keep an eye on lineups, not a reason to move a player up or down your board. It can also change: each team's last 2 games go into a December window that has no games yet, and where they land could add or remove a back-to-back.

The holes in the schedule

No games are scheduled on these dates:

  • Nov 3, 2026, and Nov 26 (Thanksgiving)
  • Dec 4 to Dec 11 (8 straight days, the NBA Cup knockout window, still to be filled)
  • Dec 24
  • Feb 19 to Feb 24, 2027 (6 days, the All-Star break)
  • Apr 10, 2027

The All-Star break makes the weeks of Feb 15 and Feb 22 genuinely short: 30 and 32 games, with no team playing 4 in either. In the week of Feb 15, 27 teams play 2 or fewer; in the week of Feb 22, 25 do.

The weeks of Nov 30 and Dec 7 are a different case. They show 29 and 14 games today because the Cup knockout games and each team's last 2 regular-season games have not been placed yet. Those weeks are unfinished. Do not read them as light, and do not set trades or drops around them until the league fills them in.

The busiest days run the other way. Nov 2, Dec 23 and Apr 11 have 15 games each, and Nov 4 and Apr 9 have 14. On days like those, a deep roster can have more players with games than lineup spots. In daily-lineup leagues, that is where bench players lose games.

The fantasy-playoff weeks

If your league's playoffs run the three weeks starting Mar 15, Mar 22 and Mar 29, the table's last column is the one to read. Most teams play 11 games in that stretch. Dallas and Phoenix play 12, with 4 in each week. Cleveland and New Orleans play 9.

The low teams each have one thin week:

  • Cleveland plays 2 games in the week of Mar 22. On the board, Cleveland has Donovan Mitchell (points rank 12), James Harden (18) and Evan Mobley (29).
  • New Orleans plays 2 in the week of Mar 29. Trey Murphy (41) and Zion Williamson (49) are its top board players.
  • Minnesota plays 2 in the week of Mar 15, then 4 and 4. Anthony Edwards (14) and LaMelo Ball (39) are on that schedule.

On the high side, Dallas has Cooper Flagg (32) and Phoenix has Devin Booker (31).

If your playoffs run through the final week instead, the week of Apr 5 has 57 games and 24 teams with 4. Cleveland, New Orleans and Minnesota each play 4 that week, so their March dip matters less in that format. Check your league settings before you weigh any of this.

A 3-game gap over three weeks, Dallas at 12 against Cleveland at 9, is real in a single matchup. It is still small next to the per-game gaps between rounds on the Parlae rankings: round 1 averages 49.8 fantasy points per game, round 2 averages 42.4.

What to do on draft night

  1. Rank by talent, then use schedule to break ties. Back-to-backs differ by 3 across the league and playoff-week games by 3. Neither should move a player more than a few spots.
  2. Know your playoff weeks. Look up which weeks your league uses, then read the matching columns above for your late-round choices.
  3. Note the Cleveland, New Orleans and Minnesota dips if you draft their players, and plan a stream for those weeks. The streaming guide ranks every team by games on light days.
  4. Recheck in December. Once the Cup group stage ends and each team's last 2 games are slotted, back-to-back counts and the weeks of Nov 30 and Dec 7 will change.
