Fantasy basketball streaming strategy: 2026-27 light days and 4-game weeks for all 30 teams

Boston plays 26 games on nights with six or fewer NBA games in 2026-27; Sacramento plays 8. Light days and 4-game weeks for all 30 teams.

Games played is a category of its own

In a head-to-head league, every game a player appears in adds to your weekly points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks and threes. The two percentage categories do not grow with games, but the other seven do, and so does every points league. Over a week, volume can beat quality.

A real example from this schedule. In the week of Mar 22, Boston plays 4 games and Cleveland plays 2. At last season's per-game rates on the Parlae points board, Boston center Neemias Queta (28.1 fantasy points per game) would give you 112.4 that week. Cleveland center Jarrett Allen (32.4 per game) would give you 64.8. Allen is the better player per game. Queta is the better start that week.

That is the case for streaming: a roster spot that turns over to whoever plays tonight collects more games than a spot held by one fixed player. Fantasy weeks in this guide run Monday to Sunday.

Light days are where streaming pays

The 2026-27 schedule has 156 game days. On 50 of them the NBA plays 6 or fewer games. On 21 it plays 11 or more.

On a heavy day you may already have more players with games than active lineup spots, so an added player can end up on your bench. On a light day the reverse happens: most of your roster is idle and open spots go unused. A streamer who plays on a light day adds a game you would not otherwise get.

So the useful number is not how many games a team plays (every team has 80 on the published schedule) but how many of those games land on light days. Across the league, 239 of the 1,200 published games fall on light days.

Boston has 18 more light-day games than Sacramento. Spread over a season that is not huge, but it is the gap between a streaming target and a team you can mostly ignore on the wire.

4-game weeks, and the weeks to ignore for now

A 4-game week is the other half of streaming. New Orleans, Minnesota and Phoenix each have 13. Chicago, Indiana and New York have 9. The catch for the top three: they also have the most short weeks, 5 each with 2 or fewer games outside December. Their schedules are lumpy, not just generous.

The weeks with the most 4-game teams are the weeks of Apr 5 (57 games, 24 teams with 4 or more), Dec 14 (55 games, 21 teams) and Mar 29 (55 games, 21 teams). In those weeks a 4-game streamer is easy to find, so the edge from chasing one is smaller.

The opposite is the All-Star stretch. No games are scheduled Feb 19 to Feb 24, 2027. The week of Feb 15 has 30 games and the week of Feb 22 has 32, with no team playing 4 in either. Every manager is short those weeks.

Two weeks are different. The weeks of Nov 30 and Dec 7 show 29 and 14 games today because Dec 4 to Dec 11 has no games yet. That is the NBA Cup knockout window, where the Cup games and each team's last 2 regular-season games will be slotted once the group stage ends. Those weeks are unfinished, not light. Do not plan streams around them until the schedule fills in.

The first week is short for some teams. The week of Oct 19 starts on Tuesday, Oct 20, has 43 games, and only Philadelphia plays 4. Boston, Cleveland, Denver, Phoenix and Portland play 2. Phoenix plays 2 again the next week, so it has 4 games through Nov 1.

Which teams' players to stream

The best streaming teams pair a high light-day count with plenty of 4-game weeks. Boston (26 and 12), Philadelphia (24 and 11), Portland (21 and 11), New Orleans (19 and 13) and Brooklyn (19 and 12) lead that list. At the bottom, Sacramento (8) and Memphis (10) rarely give you a light-day game.

Most streamers come from outside the top 156 on the board, the players a 12-team, 13-round draft leaves undrafted. On the five teams above, last season's numbers show who to watch:

  • Mitchell Robinson, Boston, C. Points rank 159. 8.8 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 19.6 minutes, 72.3% from the field, 40.8% at the line. In 9-cat he ranks 133, and 65 if you punt FT%.
  • Robert Williams, Portland, C. Points rank 180, 9-cat rank 105. 1.5 blocks and 70.8% shooting in 17.1 minutes.
  • Herbert Jones, New Orleans, SG. Points rank 183. 1.6 steals in 28.4 minutes, with 38.3% shooting from the field as the cost.
  • Anfernee Simons, Philadelphia, PG. Points rank 187. 2.7 threes and 89.6% at the line in 24.9 minutes.
  • Miles McBride, New York, SG. Points rank 192. 2.7 threes in 26.3 minutes.

These are last season's per-game rates under each player's current team. Roles change, and a streamer's minutes can disappear in a week. Check the waiver wire page for who is available and what changed before you add.

What to do on draft night

  1. Draft talent first. In the early rounds the per-game gaps are too large for schedule to matter: round 1 averages 49.8 fantasy points per game on the board, round 2 averages 42.4.
  2. Use schedule as a tiebreaker late. From round 10 on, the round averages run from 27.4 down to 23.9. When two players at the same position are that close, take the one on Boston, Philadelphia, Portland, New Orleans or Brooklyn over the one on Sacramento or Memphis.
  3. Keep one or two bench spots loose. A streaming spot only works if you are willing to drop the player in it. Check your league's weekly add limit and any games cap before you plan around volume.
  4. Recheck after the Cup group stage. Each team's last 2 games will land in December and can change these counts. The schedule and back-to-backs guide has the playoff-week counts for every team.

  • Fantasy weeks here run Monday to Sunday. A light day is a date with 6 or fewer NBA games; a heavy day has 11 or more. The published schedule has 80 games per team; each team's last 2 games are added after the NBA Cup group stage, so every count can still move.
