Week 8 Waiver Wire: Allen, Pollard and Concepcion Lead

Week 8 waiver claims ranked by Week 7 carry and target share. Braelon Allen drew 89% of the Jets' carries with Breece Hall out. Caleb Douglas: wait.

Rank the claims by work, then look at the adds

Sleeper's trending list counts adds across Sleeper leagues in the last 48 hours. It measures attention, and attention follows touchdowns faster than roles. So the order below starts with what each player did in Week 7 (his share of the team's carries or targets), then how steady that share has been, and only then the adds.

Houston, New Orleans, the Giants and San Francisco are on a bye in Week 8. That takes Kaelon Black (441,014 adds, 12 carries for 63 yards and a touchdown), Devin Singletary and Tank Dell off this week's list, however good their Week 7 was.

The top four, and why

Braelon Allen, Jets. Seventeen of the Jets' 19 running back and receiver carries, plus 7 targets, on 46 of 59 snaps. Breece Hall is listed Out with a quadriceps injury, which is why this is the top claim. Allen's carries by week are 10, 5, 4, 14, 24, 17 and 17, so the role has held for three weeks. The Jets host Las Vegas at 1:00 PM ET on Sunday.

Tony Pollard, Titans. Twenty-five of Tennessee's 28 carries, and three touchdowns made the 36.5. Tyjae Spears is listed Out with a knee injury. Pollard's carries have climbed from 7 in Week 1 to 19 and then 25. He may already be rostered in your league, so check your wire before you plan around him. Tennessee is at Cincinnati.

KC Concepcion Jr., Browns. Ten of Cleveland's 35 targets, 8 catches for 129 yards, plus 3 carries. His targets by week are 5, 6, 9, 8, 1, 6 and 10: one empty week, otherwise a floor of 5. He leads the list in adds among the players with a real role. Cleveland is at Pittsburgh.

Tre Tucker, Raiders. Twelve targets, a season high, on 82% of the snaps. His weekly targets are 4, 7, 4, 8, 5, 7 and 12, so the volume is rising, not a spike. The touchdown last week was one of 5 catches for 103 yards. Las Vegas is at the Jets, the same game as Allen.

The rest of the list

Makai Lemon, Eagles. Sixty of 62 snaps and 8 targets, his most of the season (4, 1, 4, 6, 7, 6, 8). DeVonta Smith is listed Out with a hamstring injury and Jalen Hurts is on injured reserve, so Tanner McKee is throwing. Philadelphia is at Washington on Sunday night.

Emanuel Wilson, Seahawks. Twenty-four carries, but only 48% of the snaps and 1 target, so the passing-down work is not his yet. His carries run 2, 21, 9, 21, 20, 14 and 24. Seattle hosts Chicago on Monday night (8:15 PM ET), the last game of the week, so he can fill a lineup spot that has not locked by Sunday night.

Hunter Henry, Patriots. Seven targets, a high in a steady line of 3, 5, 2, 5, 4, 5 and 7, and 76% of the snaps. New England is at Miami.

Blake Corum, Rams. Seventeen carries, his most this season, but 32 of 72 snaps. Treat this as a split until it repeats. The Rams host the Chargers.

Jordan Mason, Vikings. Fifteen carries (62%) in his second game this season. Aaron Jones is listed Questionable, so Mason's value moves with the Wednesday report. Minnesota is at Detroit.

Douglas leads the whole list by a wide margin, and the add count is attention, not a role: three targets on 44 of 65 snaps. Bid for him as a bench stash, not a starter.

Quarterbacks

  • Geno Smith, Jets: 23 of 30 for 287 yards, 3 TD and an interception, 24.5 points. He hosts Las Vegas.
  • Malik Willis, Dolphins: 14 of 21 for 208 yards and 2 TD, plus a rushing touchdown, 26.0 points. He hosts New England.
  • Kirk Cousins, Raiders: 26 of 44 for 295 yards and 2 TD, 20.4 points, and at least 13.7 points in every week this season.
  • Tanner McKee, Eagles: 23 of 35 for 211 yards, 1 TD and an interception, 11.5 points, starting while Hurts is on injured reserve.

What to do with this

  1. File the claims in share order: Allen first, then Pollard if he is there, then Concepcion and Tucker. Price bids with the FAAB guide instead of using the add counts.
  2. Check Wednesday's practice reports for Breece Hall, Tyjae Spears and DeVonta Smith. Each one changes the value of a player on this list.
  3. Check the Week 8 rankings and the injury report before you start anyone you claim. Last week's version of this guide is here.
