Fantasy basketball rookies to draft 2026-27: draft slot, depth chart and who blocks minutes

The 2026 first-round rookies by draft slot, age and Sleeper depth chart. Eight of the top 14 picks sit first on their team's depth chart at their spot.

By The Parlae deskPublished 7 min read

Why the board leaves rookies off

The Parlae board ranks every player per game from real 2025-26 box scores, under his current team. A player needs 20 or more games last season to be ranked. The 2026 draft class has no NBA box scores at all, so none of them has a board rank, a round or a dollar value.

That does not make them undraftable. It changes the evidence. For a rookie, the honest inputs are where he was drafted, how old he is, where Sleeper's depth chart has him today, and how good the best returning teammate at his position was last season. That last number is the bar. Beating a 20 FP/G teammate for minutes is a different job from beating a 44 FP/G one.

The 2026 NBA draft was held June 23 and 24, 2026 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The rookies with a clear path

Eight of the 14 sit first on Sleeper's depth chart at their spot: Dybantsa, Peterson, Boozer, Wilson, Wagler, Brown, Acuff and Lendeborg. Their bars are not equal.

The low bars: Boozer, Brown and Acuff. The board's points replacement line, rank 157, is 23.2 FP/G. The best returning teammate at each of their positions sits below it. In Memphis, the best returning player at Boozer's position is Isaiah Stewart at 22.2 FP/G (#176), and Stewart is listed Out (ankle) on the current injury report. For Brown in Brooklyn it is Egor Dëmin at 20.9 (#196). For Acuff in Sacramento it is Malik Monk at 20.7 (#201). That says nothing about what they will produce. It says no teammate above replacement level is in the way. Brown is listed GTD (ankle) on the current injury report.

The middle bars: Wilson and Wagler. Wilson is first at power forward in Chicago, where the best returning player at his position is Matas Buzelis at 30.9 FP/G (#78). Chicago also took Dailyn Swain with first-round pick No. 15; he is second at small forward, with the same Buzelis number as his bar. Wagler is first at shooting guard for the LA Clippers, and the best returning player at his position is Darius Garland at 32.2 (#70).

The high bars: Dybantsa, Peterson and Lendeborg. Dybantsa, the No. 1 pick, is first at small forward in Washington, and the best returning player at his primary position, power forward, is Anthony Davis at 44.0 FP/G (#13). Davis played 20 games last season. Peterson is first at shooting guard in Utah, and the best returning player at his position is Keyonte George at 38.2 (#38). Lendeborg is the oldest of the top 14 at 24 and is first at small forward in Golden State. The best returning player at his position, Jimmy Butler (37.4, #42), is listed Out (knee) on the current injury report.

The rookies who have to wait

Six of the top 14 are second or third on the depth chart.

  • Kingston Flemings, Atlanta: second at point guard. Nickeil Alexander-Walker returns at 33.9 FP/G (#55).
  • Morez Johnson, Dallas: second at power forward. The best returning player at his position is P.J. Washington at 29.7 (#92). Listed DTD Rest, which is a preseason rest designation, not an injury.
  • Brayden Burries, Milwaukee: second at shooting guard. Kevin Porter returns at 39.9 FP/G (#30). Burries is listed DTD Coach's Decision.
  • Aday Mara, Oklahoma City: third at center. Chet Holmgren returns at 36.3 (#43).
  • Nate Ament, Milwaukee: third at power forward, with Jaime Jaquez at 29.3 (#97), and listed DTD (ankle) on the current injury report.
  • Hannes Steinbach, Charlotte: second at center. Naz Reid returns at 28.7 (#102).

Later in the round, first-round pick No. 22, Labaron Philon, is second at point guard in Philadelphia, where Tyrese Maxey returns at 48.6 (#6). First-round pick No. 19, Allen Graves, is second at small forward in Toronto, where Scottie Barnes returns at 42.0 (#19), and Graves is listed DTD (groin) on the current injury report. First-round pick No. 20, Jayden Quaintance, is fourth at center in San Antonio, where Victor Wembanyama returns at 53.4 (#3), and is listed Out (knee) on the current injury report.

What first-year players did last season

The board can show how the last arrivals did. Of the 156 players the board would draft in a 12-team, 13-round league, 9 had no NBA games on file before 2025-26. Four of them finished in the top 100:

  • Cooper Flagg, Dallas: #32 (round 3.08), 39.8 FP/G in 33.5 minutes over 70 games
  • VJ Edgecombe, Philadelphia: #64, 33.1 FP/G in 35.0 minutes
  • Kon Knueppel, Charlotte: #80, 30.8 FP/G in 31.5 minutes
  • Derik Queen, New Orleans: #98, 29.2 FP/G in 25.0 minutes

The other five, Cedric Coward, Jeremiah Fears, Maxime Raynaud, Ace Bailey and Dylan Harper, ranked between #125 and #154 on the full rankings. Flagg was the only one inside the top 36, and all four top-100 players averaged at least 25 minutes. Minutes are what the depth chart is trying to tell you.

What to do on draft night

  1. Draft ranked players through the middle rounds. A ranked player has a season of box scores behind his number. Last season, one first-year player made the top 36.
  2. If you take a rookie late, take one with a low bar. Boozer, Brown and Acuff are first on the depth chart, and the returning player at their position ranks below the board's replacement line of 23.2 FP/G.
  3. Treat depth-chart threes and fours as watch-list names. Mara, Ament and Quaintance belong on your waiver wire watch list, not your roster, until the minutes show up.
  4. Check the injury report the morning of your draft. Brown, Ament, Graves and Quaintance all carry an injury designation today. For the ranked players who fit the same late-round slot, see our sleepers guide.
