How the trade values work

A trade buys the rest of the season, so a player is valued on the rest of the season. His rate is the median of the market-based fantasy points per game we froze before each week's first kickoff (Weeks 3, 4, 5). From that we subtract what a replacement-level starter at his position scores: the 13th quarterback (16.5 a game), the 31st running back (7.9 a game), the 37th receiver (9.1 a game) and the 13th tight end (9.5 a game). What is left, times his games from Week 6 to Week 17, is his value.

Common questions

  • How does this fantasy football trade analyzer value players?

Each player's value is his market-based fantasy points per game, minus what a replacement-level starter at his position scores, times the games he has left from Week 6 through Week 17, his bye taken out. The points per game is the median of the weekly market prices we froze before each week's first kickoff. Nothing is an opinion or an expert ranking.

  • What does the value number mean?

It is rest-of-season fantasy points above a replacement starter, in PPR scoring. A value of 100 means the market expects him to outscore the player you could start in his place by about 100 points between now and Week 17.

  • Why doesn't a two-for-one just add up the players?

It does add them, but a player at or below replacement level is worth zero: you could pick up his production for free. That is why two bench players rarely buy one starter, and why the side receiving more players also has to cut someone.

  • Why can't I find a player?

A player needs market prices in at least two weeks to have a rate, and players on injured reserve, the PUP list or the non-football list are left out because the market prices no game they miss. Kickers and team defenses are not valued.

  • Does it account for my league's roster needs?

If you have synced a league on My Team in this browser, the analyzer shows your best starting lineup on these values before and after the trade, using your league's own lineup slots. Without a league it judges the two sides on value alone.

  • How often do the values change?

A new week of market prices is frozen before each week's first kickoff, and the games left fall by one as each week is played. The value chart is rebuilt with every update.
